In zoology, more specifically biology, "vascular" means "related to blood vessels",
which are part of the Circulatory system. An organ or tissue that is vascularized
is heavily endowed with blood vessels and thus richly supplied with blood. * In botany, plants with a dedicated transport system for water and nutrients are called vascular plants. Vascular plants include ferns, conifers and flowering plants. A vascular bundle is part of such a transport system. * The penis is vascular. The transport system include 2 parts: Phloem and xylem The xylem transports water from roots to stem and leaves. The xylem of tracheophytes conducts water from root to aboveground plant parts. It contains conducting cells called tracheary elements, witch undergo random cell death before they assume their function of transporting water and dissolving minerals. In many years florists thought that there were only two kinds of tracheary elements, but in 1968 there were found a third type. A group of scientist of the UIO found that there are threee types of tracheary elements, the evolutionarily more ancident type, the angiosperm evolution type and the arctic evolutionary type. |
